Operations at the Port of Montreal are scheduled to resume on Saturday following disruptions caused by a labour dispute.
The port authority has confirmed that the Canada Industrial Relations Board has mandated the resumption of operations starting at 7 a.m.
However, it is expected to take several weeks to fully restore the smooth flow of supply chains for both imports and exports.
The conflict began on Sunday when the Maritime Employers Association locked out nearly 1,200 longshore workers after their contract offer was turned down.
Prior to this, the union representing the longshore workers had initiated an indefinite strike that affected two of the port’s terminals on October 31.
In an effort to resolve the situation, federal Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon intervened on Tuesday by requesting the Canada Industrial Relations Board to enforce a resumption of operations and move negotiations into binding arbitration.
