Grief-stricken Family of Financier Allegedly Killed by Son Speaks Out
Relatives of John McGowan, a wealthy financier from New Canaan, Conn., who was tragically found unresponsive at an exclusive luxury hotel in Ireland, expressed their devastation over the loss. McGowan, 66, was allegedly killed by his mentally ill son, Henry, 30, who has been charged in connection to his death.
The family emphasized that John McGowan had always been dedicated to supporting his son, who suffers from severe mental illness. Despite their grief, the family requested privacy during this difficult time.
Concerned for his son, McGowan traveled to Ireland after learning that Henry, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2022, was in Europe. McGowan, a partner at an investment firm in New York, had previously supported his son through mental health challenges and was eager to help him once again.
Tragically, John McGowan was found dead at the luxury resort in Ireland, where he had checked in just hours before his passing. Henry McGowan, who resides in Brooklyn Heights, has been remanded to prison on suspicion of murder, with his defense lawyer highlighting his significant mental health issues.
The case remains under investigation, with Henry scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 18 for further proceedings.
