Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is set to attend the Canadian Embassy’s inauguration party in Washington, D.C., where she will remotely watch the swearing-in of U.S. president-elect Donald Trump.
According to her office, the event will be attended by Canadian and American officials, although specific groups or individuals were not named.
Smith’s press secretary mentioned that she has also been invited to address a group of conservatives focusing on climate policy during the trip, which she plans to use as an opportunity to establish relationships with the Trump administration.
Prior to the U.S. election, the United Conservative Party premier remained neutral when asked about her thoughts on the potential outcome.
Smith’s government has been actively building relationships with Republicans and like-minded lawmakers in the U.S. In a recent development, the province announced that Smith has signed an energy pact with a coalition of 12 states to advocate for Alberta’s energy interests in the United States.
