Chris Wright is the founder and CEO of Liberty Energy, and has experience with both fossil fuel and renewable energy sources.
President-elect Donald Trump has announced energy industry executive Chris Wright as his pick to lead the Department of Energy, pending Senate confirmation.
“Chris has been at the forefront of technology and entrepreneurship in the Energy sector. He has been involved in Nuclear, Solar, Geothermal, and Oil and Gas. Chris played a key role in the American Shale Revolution that led to American Energy Independence and reshaped Global Energy Markets and Geopolitics,” the statement mentioned.
Wright serves as the founder, CEO, and chairman of the board of Liberty Energy.
Trump described Wright as a technologist and entrepreneur with expertise in fossil fuel extraction, including hydraulic fracturing. Wright also has experience with solar and nuclear energy.
“Chris supports all energy sources as long as they are abundant, affordable, and reliable,” Trump stated.
The Department of Energy’s objective is “to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.”
The department encompasses entities such as the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, the Office of Nuclear Energy, and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The country’s national laboratories, including Oak Ridge and Los Alamos, come under the department’s jurisdiction.
The current energy secretary is Jennifer Granholm. During Trump’s first term, Rick Perry and later Dan Brouillette served in this position.
Together with the Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency, the actions of this department will play a crucial role in determining whether Trump fulfills his promise to reduce energy costs.
