President-elect Donald Trump announced the appointment of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioner Brendan Carr as the agency chair. Carr, who currently serves as the senior Republican at the FCC, was nominated by Trump in 2017 and confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate three times. Trump praised Carr as a strong advocate for free speech and vowed that he would put an end to regulatory barriers that have hindered American job creators and innovators. Carr’s term as FCC commissioner runs through 2029, and he will now serve as the permanent Chairman. Before his appointment to the FCC, Carr served as the agency’s general counsel.
