The sasquatch is a mysterious creature in North American folklore, blending elements of Native American and European legends. The origins of the name itself are believed to be derived from a Salishan word, possibly meaning “hairy man” or “wild man”. The concept of the Sasquatch gained attention when stories collected by J.W. Burns in 1929 were published, initially met with skepticism until a resurgence of interest in the 1950s. The term “bigfoot”, coined in 1963, is a more straightforward description of the creature. The first documented Sasquatch/Bigfoot sighting dates back to an 1884 article referring to it as “Jacko”, described as a being that was “half man and half beast”.
