A 33-year-old migrant from Mexico was arrested for assaulting two NYPD officers who were trying to apprehend him for his involvement in a street fight in Queens, according to law enforcement sources.
Mauricio David Sosa had assaulted another 33-year-old man by punching him in the face during a confrontation on Gleane Street near Baxter Avenue in Elmhurst around midnight on Tuesday. When the officers arrived at the scene, Sosa resisted arrest by punching one officer in the face and kicking another in the lower stomach, as reported by the police.
Sosa was charged with two counts of felony assault for attacking the officers, a misdemeanor assault charge for the initial altercation, and resisting arrest, according to the police.
Both officers declined medical treatment for their injuries.
Sosa had made multiple attempts to enter the US at the southern border, finally succeeding on his fourth try, sources informed The Post.
During his initial three attempts, Sosa was intercepted and chose voluntary removal from the country each time, although the exact timeline was unclear, as per sources.
Sosa, currently residing in Jersey City, has no prior arrests in New York City, as stated by the police.
