A Queens Woman Allegedly Stabs Elderly Mother to Death on Thanksgiving Eve
A Queens woman is accused of fatally stabbing her 84-year-old mother in a tragic Thanksgiving Eve incident on Long Island. Diana Bekatoros, 51, allegedly attacked Josephine Bekatoros at the older woman’s home on Carman Court in Dix Hills, according to Suffolk County Police.
After her arrest, Diana Bekatoros made a chilling statement to a Newsday photographer outside the Fourth Precinct stationhouse in Hauppage. She eerily claimed, “I never had a mother,” and when asked if she had killed her mother, she bizarrely added, “Are you my mother?”
Bekatoros, who was arrested at her home in Long Island City, was charged with second-degree murder. She was held without bail during her Thanksgiving Day arraignment.
Neighbor Helene Glodowski expressed shock over the tragic event, stating that she had lived across from the Bekatoros family for many years. Glodowski described Josephine as a lovely lady who was always meticulously dressed and careful with her appearance.
Diana Bekatoros had previously lived with her parents and maintained a close relationship with her mother, despite moving out 15 years ago. The Bekatoros family also had a son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter living in Nassau County.
Despite the tragic events, Bekatoros’ attorney, Daniel Russo, did not provide immediate comment on the case.
