The mother of Reeva Steenkamp, the South African model murdered by Oscar Pistorius, shares a chilling warning for his new girlfriend.
June Steenkamp, 78, mother of the late Reeva Steenkamp, spoke to The Sun about her concerns regarding the disgraced Olympian’s anger issues.
Oscar Pistorius, 38, was convicted in 2014 for the shooting death of Reeva Steenkamp, 29, on Valentine’s Day 2013 at his South African residence.
Released in January with strict parole conditions, Pistorius has reportedly started a new relationship with Rita Greyling, 33, a business management consultant.
Despite keeping their relationship private, sources close to the couple confirmed their romantic involvement to Netwerk24.
June Steenkamp expressed her concerns about Pistorius’s temper issues and warned Rita Greyling about the potential danger she might face.
June stated, “He was supposed to be under anger management when he was in jail, and at one stage, I stopped him from coming out because he wasn’t receiving treatment.”
She further added that she and her husband had raised concerns to parole authorities about Pistorius’s release, fearing he still posed a threat.
June, who established the “Reeva Steenkamp Foundation Against The Abuse of Women and Children,” believes that Pistorius continues to be a danger to women.
Expressing her worry for Rita Greyling’s safety, June emphasized the importance of recognizing the red flags in Pistorius’s behavior.
Reeva Steenkamp’s family has always maintained that she was intentionally killed by Pistorius in a fit of rage.
Despite Pistorius’s claims of mistaking Reeva for an intruder, he was sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison for her murder.
Having served over half of his sentence, Pistorius was released on parole and continues to assert that Reeva’s death was accidental.
Living a low-profile life at his uncle’s residence, Pistorius is subject to parole conditions until 2029, including regular checks and restrictions on his movements.
Despite his attempts to reintegrate into society, Pistorius remains under close supervision due to the nature of his crime.
He is prohibited from contacting Reeva’s family and must adhere to strict rules to ensure public safety.
Three months after his release, Pistorius was spotted in public, showcasing a changed appearance with gray hair and a slimmer physique.
As he moves forward with his life, the shadow of his past actions continues to loom over his future.
