A driver in London was arrested for attempted murder after driving onto a sidewalk and hitting a group of people on Christmas morning, resulting in four individuals being hospitalized, as per police reports.
The 31-year-old man was driving on the wrong side of Shaftesbury Avenue in London’s West End theater district around 12:45 a.m. when the incident occurred, as reported by the BBC.
One of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries, according to the Metropolitan Police, who confirmed that the incident was isolated and not related to terrorism.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy mentioned that the suspect was believed to have been involved in a nightclub altercation before entering his vehicle and driving onto the pavement.
Authorities cordoned off an area outside the Sondheim Theater, where the popular musical Les Misérables is currently being staged, according to Sky News.
