Four teenage girls were arrested this week for allegedly attacking a 71-year-old woman during a failed robbery attempt at a Brooklyn subway station on New Year’s Day. The brave senior, who was on her way to church, fought back against the girls, according to police.
The teens, aged 13, 14, and two 15-year-olds, were apprehended on Wednesday and Thursday and are each facing charges of robbery, assault, and harassment in connection with the attack on Linda Rosa, 71.
One of the 15-year-olds involved had a previous arrest in September for assaulting a Queens police officer to prevent the officer from arresting someone else, sources in law enforcement revealed.
The other girls had no previous run-ins with the law.
The incident occurred when one of the girls attempted to snatch Rosa’s purse after she exited a No. 3 train at Hoyt Street, as Rosa recounted to The Post last week.
“And then I [said to myself], ‘Oh, no, this is not going to happen today,’” said Rosa, a retired MTA computer operation worker residing in East New York.
Subsequently, another teen also tried to grab Rosa’s bag and challenged her to a fight.
A physical altercation ensued, with one of the girls striking Rosa in the face, resulting in a cut on her nose, as the victim described.
Rosa struggled with the teens and ended up falling to the ground, where one of them allegedly stomped on her. Despite this, she managed to get back up, grab two of them by their hair, and call for help.
She was later treated at The Brooklyn Hospital Center and expressed gratitude that her injuries were not more severe.
Rosa has forgiven the teens but believes they should face the consequences of their actions.
“I forgive them. They do not know what they do,” said Rosa. “They don’t know what they did. It’s just teenagers acting foolish.”
“They don’t know the consequences of their actions until this happened, and now they have to pay for it – because we all have to pay for our choices,” she added.
“Whatever choice you make, there is a consequence.”
