The former president has released a video statement outlining his stance on abortion, a crucial issue in the upcoming 2024 presidential race.
While expressing a general pro-life position, former President Donald Trump believes that each U.S. state should determine its abortion policies based on “the will of the people.”
“I believe that we have reached a legal consensus on abortion that satisfies everyone,” he stated. States will determine how to govern abortion through voting, legislation, or a combination of both. “Whatever decision they make must be upheld as the law of the state,” President Trump asserted.
He acknowledged that the choice to have an abortion is deeply personal for each individual involved.
“You should follow your conscience, your faith, or your beliefs in many cases. Do what is best for your family, for yourself, for your children, and for our nation,” he urged.
President Trump, a member of the Republican Party, highlighted the stark contrast in abortion views between the two major parties.
He criticized “radical” Democrats for supporting abortion at all stages of pregnancy, including post-birth, which he deemed as unacceptable. “Once the baby is born, the baby is killed,” he stated.
“The Republican Party stands by you in your pursuit of the ultimate happiness in life,” President Trump declared, concluding his statement with support for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) for couples seeking to start a family.
