The body of a fourth construction worker has been found at the site of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore. Salvage teams recovered a body from a construction vehicle that fell into the water during the collapse. The victim’s name has not been disclosed at the family’s request.
The FBI has initiated a criminal investigation into the incident, which occurred when a cargo ship collided with the bridge, resulting in its collapse and the death of six construction workers. Two workers are still missing. The investigation will look into the circumstances leading up to the ship’s departure from the port and whether the crew was aware of any mechanical issues that could have made the vessel unsafe.
President Joe Biden has pledged to prioritize the rebuilding of the bridge due to the significant economic impact of the Port of Baltimore on the region. The National Transportation Safety Board is also conducting an investigation, and attorneys representing some of the victims are conducting an independent inquiry into the crash.
The city of Baltimore has announced plans to take legal action against those responsible for the bridge collapse, including the owner, charterer, operator, and manufacturer of the cargo ship. Mayor Brandon Scott emphasized the city’s commitment to holding accountable all entities involved in the tragedy.
