Engaging Card Games for Language Learning
Teacher’s Guide
Prepare an exciting session by selecting cards suitable for your class, with an equal number of “do” and “make” cards. Feel free to customize blank cards. Print and cut one set per group of two to four students.
In the game of Pelmanism, students take turns flipping cards to find matching verbs. If they uncover two “do” or two “make” cards, they score points. If they reveal one of each, the cards go back face down. The player with the most cards wins.
Snap is a fast-paced game using the same cards. Students place cards facing down and race to shout “Snap!” when matching verbs appear. Correct shouts win them all the cards. Incorrect shouts result in card exchanges.
After playing the games, encourage students to categorize the cards based on the verbs, fostering additional learning opportunities.
