Some people recommend choosing paper-based IELTS Reading because it is much easier to underline and make notes on the text and questions, and you can double-check your answers and guess when you transfer them to the separate answer sheet. Others, however, prefer computer-based IELTS because you can have the questions and text on one screen without needing to flick back and forth, and there is no need to transfer your answers at the end.

Compare two of the following ways of transferring your answers in the paper-based IELTS Reading test:
- writing each answer directly on the answer sheet as you choose it (without writing it on the question sheet first)
- transferring your answers after you finish each of the three reading texts
- transferring your answers when you finish the whole reading test
- transferring your answers after 50 minutes, i.e. when there are only ten minutes left at the end of the test
