MEMPHIS, Tenn.—A tragic incident unfolded at a Memphis city park on Saturday night where eight people were shot, resulting in the death of two men, the police department confirmed.
Initially, the Memphis Police Department reported 16 people were shot, but this number was later revised as the investigation progressed. The department attributed the error to “several victims being reported multiple times.”
Chief Cerelyn Davis revealed that officers were dispatched to the scene at 7:19 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Tragically, two men lost their lives, and one individual was in critical condition.
The shooting took place at an unsanctioned block party in Orange Mound Park, which drew an estimated crowd of 200 to 300 attendees. The event did not have the necessary city permit.
“In light of recent events, we stand together to denounce these senseless acts of violence,” Davis stated during a press conference.
At the time of reporting, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
