California Representative Adam Schiff experienced San Francisco crime firsthand when his luggage was stolen from his car in a parking garage, leaving him to attend a fancy dinner in casual attire, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.
Schiff, a Democrat and candidate to replace the late Senator Dianne Feinstein, had parked his car in a downtown garage before a gathering with supporters. Unfortunately, his car was broken into, resulting in the loss of his bags and leaving him without a suit for the dinner at Ristorante Rocca in Burlingame.
Despite the setback, Schiff thanked Joe Cotchett, a high-profile lawyer supporting his Senate bid, for his assistance. A photo from the restaurant showed Schiff as the most casually dressed diner at his table, wearing a long-sleeved shirt under a hiking vest.
Although San Francisco has been known for its high crime rates, including car break-ins, statistics show that larcenies, which include car burglaries, have decreased in the city. In the first quarter of 2024, larcenies dropped by 35% compared to the same period in the previous year, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
