San Francisco has been awarded nearly $40 million to support the development of affordable housing, announced city officials this week.
The state’s Department of Housing and Community Development has granted $37.9 million through its Multifamily Housing Program to support the completion of a low-income housing project consisting of 168 units in San Francisco’s Mission District.
San Francisco Supervisor Hillary Ronen praised state housing officials for approving the funding and commended the site at 1515 South Van Ness Avenue, which is currently being used for homeless services and shelter.
“I am delighted that the housing department has acknowledged the importance of this development, and we are now ready to begin construction,” she added in the same press release.
The City and County of San Francisco acquired the site in 2019 after it had been vacant for four years. Construction on the project is set to commence next year.
Upon completion, the site will offer family-friendly amenities and community spaces on the ground floor, as per officials.
