Super delegates play a key role in the endorsement process, with Ms. Omar securing the support of 28 super delegates. The convention saw passionate speeches from candidates like Mr. Samuels and Timothy L. Peterson, who eventually withdrew from the race and endorsed Mr. Samuels. In the diverse district, Ms. Omar’s stance on issues like anti-Semitism and Palestinian support has divided constituents but also garnered support from others. Don Sanders, a congressional candidate, received praise from supporters at the Minnesota Congressional District 5 Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party’s nominating convention. One attendee, who came from a country with a lack of government transparency, expressed delight at witnessing the democratic process firsthand.
