In a recent development, Nicole Shanahan, Silicon Valley investor and running mate of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., announced a generous donation of $8 million to their independent presidential campaign. This substantial contribution brings her total support to $10 million, excluding the previous $4 million donated to a super PAC endorsing Mr. Kennedy for a Super Bowl ad earlier this year. Ms. Shanahan’s financial backing has been instrumental in funding their nationwide ballot access efforts and pushing Mr. Kennedy onto debate stages.
The announcement was made at a comedy fundraiser in Nashville, following a series of performances by renowned comedians who also used the platform to express their views on various topics, including Covid vaccinations, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, mainstream media, and President Biden.
Ms. Shanahan’s significant personal wealth has provided a critical lifeline for Mr. Kennedy’s campaign, as they navigate the costly process of securing ballot access in all 50 states. This endeavor is particularly challenging due to anticipated legal challenges from the Democratic Party and its affiliates.
The timing of Ms. Shanahan’s donation coincided with the decision by President Biden and former President Trump to engage in two debates on June 27 and September 10, bypassing the traditional Commission on Presidential Debates. Both candidates have expressed reluctance to include Mr. Kennedy in the debates, prompting him to voice his concerns on social media about being excluded from the democratic process.
To qualify for the CNN debate, Mr. Kennedy must achieve at least 15% support in four approved national polls between March 13 and June 20. He is currently on the ballot in five states with a total of 84 electoral votes, but efforts are underway to secure additional state ballot placements before the debate qualification deadline.
Mr. Kennedy remains determined to challenge the exclusionary tactics of his opponents, emphasizing the importance of a fair and inclusive democratic process.
