A 32-year-old Florida man, Kevin Eugene Leeks Jr., has been sentenced to life in prison for burglarizing and beating a 97-year-old World War II veteran in 2019. The Office of State Attorney in the Fifth Judicial Circuit in Florida made the announcement on Thursday. Leeks was convicted of burglary with battery and received a life sentence under Floridaâs Prison Releasee Reoffender Law.
The jury found Leeks guilty of assaulting WWII veteran Willard VanOrder after he came back home from a grocery shopping trip. VanOrder had driven his lawnmower to a convenience store in the Okahumpka area to buy groceries, as per the state attorneyâs office.
