Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is once again making a hockey wager, this time on the Edmonton Oilers as they face off against the Dallas Stars in the NHL Western Conference finals.
Following their Game 7 victory over the Vancouver Canucks, the Oilers are set to play the Stars on May 23.
Premier Smith has challenged Texas Governor Greg Abbott to a bet on the outcome of the upcoming hockey series.
“If the Oilers emerge victorious, Governor Abbott must enjoy the world’s finest steak – an Alberta rib steak – on camera and share how incredible it tastes. Should the Stars somehow triumph, I will do the same,” she declared.
Premier Smith previously made a similar bet with B.C. Premier David Eby during the Oilers’ match against the Canucks.
“In this vast democracy known as Canada, we often need to put our differences aside to unite. But in the next few weeks, British Columbians & Edmontonians will have to set aside their shared dislike for the Calgary Flames in pursuit of hockey glory,” Mr. Eby expressed on X on May 4. “Let the bet begin!”
As of May 21, Governor Abbott had yet to respond to the wager.
Ms. Smith’s wager comes just two months after her visit to Texas to strengthen ties between the energy sectors of the two regions.
“Today, I toured the Seaway Port operated by Enbridge and Enterprise Products with Minister Brian Jean. Alberta is eager to expand our production capacity and we will continue collaborating with reliable partners to make this a reality!”
She also attended the CERAWeek energy conference in Houston on March 19 to promote the growth of Alberta’s energy industry.
The following day, she participated in another event aimed at attracting investment to Alberta.
