A 61-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of shooting and injuring five individuals at a residence in San Fernando, Calif., before shooting at a police helicopter, authorities reported.
Police responded to the scene just before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, where they discovered four gunshot victims. A fifth victim was later located at a nearby hospital, having driven himself there, as per ABC 7.
After barricading himself inside the home, the suspect fired at a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter before being apprehended by law enforcement. Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported.
As of Sunday, details regarding the relationship between the suspect and the victims, as well as the circumstances leading up to the shooting, remain unknown. Information on the victims’ conditions was also not immediately disclosed.
The man could potentially face charges such as attempted murder and firing at an aircraft. He is being held on bail set at $9.8 million.
San Fernando, a city with approximately 24,000 residents, is situated 25 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
