An individual accused of stabbing six people without provocation in Massachusetts, and allegedly killing his Connecticut roommate over the weekend, reportedly lost control after a dispute between his housemate and their neighbors, according to nearby residents.
Jared Ravizza, 26, apparently reacted strongly after two women called the police on his housemate, an older man known as “Bruce,” who they claimed was trespassing on their property while walking his dog in the Deep River neighborhood, as per locals who spoke to The Post on Monday.
âIt sounded like whatever happened was a match to the stick,â neighbor Charlie Brashears said.
Allegedly, Ravizza threw a shovel through the womenâs window on Saturday, causing it to break, according to photos and accounts from neighbors. The women called the police again, and when officers arrived to question him, they discovered a gruesome scene at the home where he and Bruce were renting through Vrbo, a competitor to Airbnb.
Bruce and his dog were found dead, leading to a significant police presence in the peaceful New England neighborhood on Saturday, according to neighbors.
However, Ravizza was not present as he had crossed state lines into Massachusetts where he allegedly continued his violent spree.
He was later apprehended after reportedly stabbing four girls, aged 9 to 17, in a Braintree AMC theater before driving to a McDonaldâs in Plymouth and attacking two employees with a knife, resulting in all victims sustaining non-life-threatening injuries, as per the police.
As of Monday night, he had not been arrested or charged in connection with the Connecticut murder, and local authorities did not immediately confirm the details of the alleged crime shared by residents.
Residents mentioned that Bruce would wander around the neighborhood with his gray poodle, sitting on people’s porches without invitation, leading the two women at one residence to ask him to leave. This apparently triggered Ravizza when he found out about it, according to neighbors.
â[The women] said, âHey, this isnât appropriate and you need to leaveâ and they called the police to make a complaint,â Brashears told The Post. âIt sounded like whatever happened was a match to the stick. Jared picked up a shovel, went down to their house and threw a shovel at their window.â
Another neighbor, Joe Ostering, also told The Post that Ravizza threw the shovel at the window after Bruce’s encounter with the women.
âI guess he told Jared about it because Jared apparently went back to that house and threw a shovel right through their window,â Ostering, 64, said. âIâm not sure if it was before or after he killed Bruce. Thatâs how it all started. Then he left here and went to the movie theater.â
Initially, only two officers responded, but chaos ensued in the normally quiet area after the discovery of the body.
âThere was an Essex policeman and a state policeman,â Brashears, 54, said. âIt looked like how they would respond to a domestic disturbance. I understand they found the body. There were two cops, then whammo â within about 10 minutes all hell broke loose and there were 7 or 8 cop cars.â
Brashears mentioned that when he later inquired if the area was safe, the police informed him that the perpetrator had been apprehended out of state.
Neighbors believe that Bruce’s gray poodle, named Lily, was also found deceased inside along with Bruce, although the police did not confirm this immediately.
Ravizza checked into the rental house through Vrbo on April 20 and mostly kept to himself as he came and went in the Porsche Macan he later crashed following his alleged stabbing spree, according to neighbors.
However, Bruce, who moved in about two weeks earlier, was more sociable. He would openly mention that he was âbrokeâ and was being accommodated by Ravizza, who was supposed to stay in the residence for at least a couple of months.
âBruce said he had a friend in the Vrbo who he was staying with,â Brashears said. âHe made it clear he was broke. Bruce said he hoped his friend was going to let him stay for the rest of the month.â
Brashears mentioned that his mother-in-law visited on Wednesday while he was working in New York City and overheard the two men arguing, although it was unclear what the argument was about.
âIt was a big fight,â he said. âShe could hear them arguing, nothing specific but clearly two voices very angry.â
Ostering, who had developed a friendship with Bruce, stated that other neighbors did not like him, but he found Bruce to be a âtrue gentlemanâ who simply wanted to converse with others. He believed that Bruce would sit on peopleâs porches uninvited to catch his breath, possibly due to a knee issue, while out walking Lily.
However, Brashears found him to be an âodd duck.â
âBruce would roll around with his dog unleashed and theyâd sit on peopleâs porches. Bruce would sit in our yard uninvited,â he said.
The dog would defecate and he would neglect to clean it up.
Meanwhile, Ravizza, known for his distinct long blonde hair, rarely engaged in conversations with neighbors.
Recently, he submitted a request to legally change his name to Jared Love Jones. Additionally, he occasionally shared photos of himself donning lip gloss, face glitter, and painted nails.
According to an anonymous neighbor, although he primarily dressed in male attire, he painted his nails and at times sported cropped t-shirts revealing his midriff.
Ravizzaâs legal issues trace back to April when he was apprehended on Marthaâs Vineyard for allegedly assaulting his father during a mental breakdown, as reported by the Boston Globe.
He is currently facing charges of assault with intent to murder and two counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon following a violent stabbing incident on Saturday. His court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
