The Unite union announced that tanker drivers supplying garage forecourts and aviation fuel will go on strike due to a pay dispute. The strike by members of Unite based at Stanlow oil refinery is scheduled for June 6-8 and June 13-15. This industrial action is expected to impact deliveries across the North West and Scottish Borders.
The drivers, employed by Hoyer (now rebranded as Oxalis), argue that the pay offer they received is significantly lower compared to their counterparts in other regions. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham expressed full support for the drivers in their quest for equal pay.
On the other hand, Oxalis defended its position by stating that they have offered a 19 percent pay increase over two years to the drivers. The company emphasized that any further increase could jeopardize the operation’s viability and lead to job losses. However, they are open to further discussions with the union to reach a mutually agreeable resolution.
Despite the looming strike, Oxalis assured that they have comprehensive contingency plans in place to ensure the continuity of their operations. Both parties are hopeful that an agreement can be reached to avert the industrial action.
