Minister of Defence Bill Blair has announced that Canada will be deploying Royal Canadian Navy vessels to support the Indo-Pacific Strategy in the near future.
The Department of National Defence has stated that HMCS Vancouver will be heading to Hawaii to participate in Exercise Rim of the Pacific 2024 (RIMPAC), which is recognized as the largest joint and combined maritime exercise globally.
In addition to HMCS Vancouver, HMCS Max Bernays, MV Asterix, and approximately 300 Canadian Armed Forces members will also be partaking in RIMPAC.
This marks the second consecutive year that three warships from the navy will be deployed to the region.
Following the conclusion of RIMPAC 2024, Vancouver will continue its journey westward across the Pacific Ocean for Operation Horizon, a forward-presence mission in the Indo-Pacific region.
While speaking at the Shangri-La defence forum in Singapore, Blair emphasized that the security and stability of the Indo-Pacific region are crucial to Canada’s future. He stated that Canada’s participation demonstrates its commitment as a partner for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
