A Florida man, Tyrone Arthur Rhyant, allegedly chopped off another man’s hand with a machete and confessed to police that he tried to kill him, according to authorities.
Police in Miami Gardens found the victim with a severed hand and head injuries after a 911 call in the early hours of Monday, as reported by WPLG.
A blood-covered machete was discovered near the scene, and witnesses reported seeing Rhyant fleeing naked at the time of the attack.
Rhyant was later found by police lounging on a sofa nearby after the victim provided a description of his attacker.
Although the motive was not disclosed, Rhyant’s estranged wife, who has a restraining order against him, lives in close proximity.
Rhyant allegedly confessed to police that he tried to kill the victim while being taken into custody, stating, “Is he dead? I tried to kill him,” as reported by a TV station.
The victim was taken to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital for treatment.
Rhyant faces charges of attempted murder causing injury and domestic violence/violation of injunction. He is currently held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
