A “disgruntled client” attacked a 17-year-old volunteer at a Brooklyn soup kitchen, resulting in the teenager being stabbed in the stomach, possibly due to a disagreement over a pitcher of apple juice. The incident occurred outside Masbia of Flatbush, where the victim was participating in a summer youth program. Police and sources reported that the altercation stemmed from an argument that started inside the soup kitchen, which had been operating for two decades without major issues.
An insider at the soup kitchen mentioned that the attacker may have become agitated over a minor issue with the beverages served during dinner service. The source explained that the situation escalated when the aggressor confronted a volunteer and was warned to leave if his behavior continued. The conflict eventually spilled outside, leading to the stabbing.
The victim, who suffered a stab wound in his lower right abdomen, was taken to Maimonides Medical Center and listed in stable condition. Fortunately, his injuries were not severe, according to the source. The teenager was close to completing his six-week volunteer program at the facility.
The suspect managed to flee the scene and evaded capture by the following day. Alexander Rapaport, the executive director of Masbia, assured that despite the incident, the soup kitchen remains a safe space. He emphasized the importance of vigilance and de-escalation techniques for both staff and volunteers to prevent similar situations in the future.
