Over the years, election after election has brought promises of hope, change, and progress. However, these promises often seem to fall flat, leaving many skeptical of the potential for real change. The current moment, though, may be different.
With the return of Team Trump and the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk, there is a real opportunity for significant reform. The plan outlined by DOGE, including the elimination of outdated regulations, the reduction of government personnel, and the suspension of unnecessary programs, has the potential to revolutionize the way government operates.
Backed by recent Supreme Court rulings that limit agency overreach, these reforms could have a lasting impact on American life. By taking decisive action now, the Trump administration has the opportunity to increase its popularity, improve the economic environment, and restore transparency and accountability to government operations.
While skepticism is understandable given past failures, the time may finally be right for meaningful change. With the right approach and determination, the reform efforts being proposed could be the real deal, ushering in a new era of efficiency and accountability in government. I spoke to individuals who witnessed the government budget cuts in 1981 to see if there are any similarities in the current mood. They all agreed that there is no comparison. During Reagan’s first term, there was little desire from the public to balance the budget or reduce bureaucracy, only mild rhetoric. Today, the public is extremely intolerant of any undemocratic practices and wasteful spending.
This is promising to hear, as expectations are high. It will be up to DOGE to ensure that the Trump administration can either lead a true revolution or become a transitional government, similar to the Kerensky government in Russia in 1917 or the First French Republic after 1789. The challenge is great when the public is so eager for change.
The dream team consists of Trump, Vivek, Musk, Tulsi Gabbard, and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. If anyone can bring about reform, it is this group. If they are unable to do so, it is difficult to envision a scenario in which change is possible. This could be a pivotal moment. If not, and the Trump administration only serves as a transition, the future is uncertain.
