Alberta has entered phase three of its “Alberta is Calling” campaign to promote migration from other provinces, with the addition of a moving bonus offered by the government.
Individuals who relocate to Alberta between May 1 and Dec. 31 to work in high-demand skilled trades and remain for at least 12 months may qualify for a refundable tax credit.
Interested individuals can subscribe to the government email list and apply after residing in Alberta for a year.
Minister of Jobs, Economy, and Trade Matt Jones highlighted the numerous opportunities available in the province.
“It also illustrates our dedication to filling key roles with productive workers to support our growing infrastructure demands.”
Alberta is anticipating a surge in its construction industry, with the government expecting to create 14,000 construction jobs between 2024 and 2033.
“Our province is on the brink of a substantial increase in projects such as Air Products and Dow,” noted Terry Parker, executive director of Building Trades of Alberta. “Alberta’s skilled trades present numerous exciting career prospects.”
The province has allocated $10 million for the moving bonus initiative and estimates that 2,000 eligible workers will relocate to Alberta.
The “Alberta is Calling” campaign was launched in 2000 to tackle labor shortages in the province. The initial phase aimed to attract workers from the healthcare, trades, and technology sectors in Vancouver and Toronto. Subsequent phases targeted Atlantic Canada and Ontario. The third phase of the advertising campaign is projected to cost $2.5 million.
