Prime Minister Justin Trudeau faced significant challenges over the summer, particularly right before meeting with his Liberal caucus. The caucus, eager for a strategy to boost their success, will convene next week in Nanaimo, B.C., following Trudeau’s meetings with the Ontario and Quebec caucuses.
This week, the NDP withdrew from their agreement with the Liberals, citing concerns about “corporate greed.” Additionally, the Liberal Party’s national campaign director, Jeremy Broadhurst, announced his resignation, further adding to the challenges faced by Trudeau.
However, the optics of losing key partners and staff members are less than ideal. Trudeau also recently lost his labor minister and may soon lose another minister to provincial politics.
“The Canadian labour markets are showing signs of softening,” stated Nathan Janzen, the assistant chief economist at the bank.
The increase in unemployment, coupled with rapid population growth, may pose challenges for the Liberals as they aim to boost the economy and their political standing.
