Former budget director under Ronald Reagan, David Stockman, and Stephen Moore, Donald Trump’s former senior economic advisor, engage in a debate on the topic, “In the current presidential election, both Democrats and Republicans consist of a UniParty that will lead us to the bottom of the national ‘policy dumpster.’
Supporting the affirmative side is David Stockman, former budget director under President Reagan. He is a prolific author and the latest of his books is the 2024 publication Trump’s War on Capitalism. Stockman shares his insights on his website Contra Corner. The reference to a “policy dumpster” in the resolution is drawn from a series of blog posts Stockman wrote in August.
Opposing the resolution is Stephen Moore, who served as Trump’s senior economic advisor and was the research director of President Reagan’s Privatization Commission. Moore currently holds the position of Senior Visiting Fellow in Economics at The Heritage Foundation and is a co-founder of Unleash Prosperity, an organization dedicated to educating policymakers on supply-side economics. He is also the author of the 2012 book Who’s the Fairest of Them All?: The Truth about Opportunity, Taxes, and Wealth in America.
The debate was facilitated by Soho Forum director Gene Epstein.
