Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. and his wife have been accused of physically and verbally abusing their teenage daughter, as captured on video by her boyfriend. The parents allegedly disapproved of the boyfriend, leading to tensions in the family.
According to charging documents, Small, 50, and his wife La’Quetta, 47, were filmed over a video chat berating and “choking” their child, resulting in charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
The abuse, which started in Dec. 2023, included incidents where the parents reportedly beat the 16-year-old unconscious with a broom, used a belt to hit her, and punched her in the mouth.
The boyfriend provided video evidence of the abuse, as well as photos showing the girl’s injuries. In one video clip, Small can be heard threatening his daughter, while the mother, La’Quetta, is also accused of physical abuse, including dragging the teen by her hair and beating her with a belt.
The charges came to light when the teenager confided in school staff during a mental health training day, leading to an investigation by authorities.
Despite denying the allegations, Small and his wife are facing charges of child endangerment, with Small also facing charges of terrorist threats and aggravated assault. Additionally, they have been charged with disorderly persons’ simple assault.
The mayor’s home was searched in March, and during a news conference, he stated that he has nothing to hide. The daughter’s handwritten letter expressing a desire to run away from home was also discovered during the search.
