Australia’s eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant, closely monitors mentions of herself and her office on social media, receiving reports multiple times a day from data analysis firm Meltwater. This service, which also covers other media sources, helps Inman Grant stay informed about public opinions on her and her work. The cost of this monitoring service is undisclosed, but it includes various add-on features for an additional fee. Inman Grant’s office receives and reviews these reports daily, with the General Manager of Regulatory Operations overseeing the process. This monitoring has led to successful actions against social media platforms in the past, highlighting the importance of staying informed about online conversations. Her LinkedIn profile is intentionally difficult to locate.
“The only valid reason for anyone at the eSafety office to investigate her social media is her association with me and my disapproval of their recent actions. This is a focused and obvious act of surveillance that has caused significant fear and distress,” Mr. Livingstone stated.
