A Baltimore man was taken into custody on Sunday in connection with the recent shooting of a 12-year-old girl who was discovered deceased in an east Baltimore rowhome.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday night, with authorities quickly pinpointing Omar Passmore, 28, as a suspect. Passmore, who shares a child with the victim’s mother, was believed to be the only person present in the residence with the victim, Breaunna Cormley, at the time of the shooting.
While the charging documents do not provide a clear motive for the crime, they state that Passmore allegedly shot the victim “for unknown reasons.”
Following interviews with witnesses and the creation of a timeline of events, investigators determined that Breaunna was alone at home when Passmore entered the residence, leading to a confrontation marked by loud yelling. Passmore was later seen sitting on the front steps of the house before fleeing on foot.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott expressed his sorrow at a news conference, stating, “This young lady had a whole life ahead of her, but a coward took her life… It’s a kid. That’s all that matters. You’re talking about a 12-year-old girl.”
While details surrounding the shooting remain scarce, Police Commissioner Richard Worley emphasized that the incident was deliberate and not accidental in nature.
Just two days after this tragic event, another young life was lost in west Baltimore when a 14-year-old boy, Jasper Davis, was fatally shot. Police have since released photos of a suspect linked to that case.
