Barron Trump, the 18-year-old son of former President Donald Trump, has decided not to serve as a delegate for the Florida Republican Party, as confirmed by First Lady Melania Trump’s office.
According to a statement from Ms. Trump’s office, Barron was selected as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party but had to decline due to prior commitments.
Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power had previously announced that Barron Trump was chosen as one of the at-large delegates from Florida for the GOP national convention, where President Trump is expected to be officially nominated as the Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
The Republican National Convention is set to take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in mid-July.
Among the 41 at-large delegates from Florida, three of Trump’s children—Eric, Tiffany, and Donald Trump Jr.—were included on the list. Eric Trump will be serving as the state’s delegation chair, while Ivanka Trump was not listed as a delegate.
This would have been Barron Trump’s first public appearance in the realm of politics.
“The RPOF is prepared for an excellent convention in Milwaukee, and we are enthusiastic about the groundwork being laid in Florida for success,” Mr. Power stated. “Rest assured, we are poised to win big in November!”
‘He Is a Smart One’: Trump on Barron
President Trump shared on Philadelphia’s Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that his youngest son, Barron, is “a smart one” with an interest in politics.
When asked if the former president had cautioned Barron about the challenges of politics, President Trump mentioned that his son has a good understanding of it firsthand. In fact, Barron even offers his father advice from time to time.
“He is a smart one. He doesn’t need much guidance,” President Trump remarked. “He’s a great guy. He’s quite tall,” he added. “I must say, he’s tall, but he’s a handsome guy.”
“He’s been an excellent student,” President Trump continued. “And he has a keen interest in politics. It’s quite amusing. Sometimes he tells me, ‘Dad, this is what you should do.'”
“He’s currently a high school senior, and he’ll be off to college soon,” he concluded.
Recently, the former president requested permission from Judge Juan Merchan to miss a day in court for his “hush money” trial to attend Barron’s high school graduation on May 17. Judge Merchan granted the request, allowing President Trump to be present at the graduation ceremony.
Judge Merchan had initially hesitated to allow President Trump to attend the ceremony, which caused some controversy. This incident brought Barron Trump into the spotlight.
Barron Trump was just 10 years old when his father assumed office in the White House in 2016, and he was mostly shielded from public attention during his father’s presidency.
The Epoch Times reached out to the First Lady’s Office and the Republican National Committee for their input.
