Former President Donald J. Trump’s youngest son, Barron, who has been kept out of the political spotlight and had his privacy fiercely guarded for years, has been selected as one of Florida’s delegates to the Republican National Convention.
Barron, who recently turned 18 and is set to graduate from high school this month, will be among the 41 at-large delegates at the party’s national gathering in July. This is where the Republican Party is expected to officially nominate his father as the presidential candidate. The news of his selection was first reported by NBC News.
Joining Barron in the delegation will be his two more politically active brothers, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., both of whom have actively campaigned for their father. Tiffany Trump, Mr. Trump’s younger daughter, will also be a Florida delegate, while Ivanka Trump, his eldest child, was not included in the list.
Unlike many politicians’ children who often join their parents on the campaign trail, Barron Trump has mostly remained out of the public eye during his father’s campaign this year. It is uncertain whether he will deliver a speech at the Republican convention, as his siblings did in previous years.
Barron has been attending a private high school in Florida for the past few years. His upcoming graduation on May 17 caused a scheduling conflict in Mr. Trump’s trial in Manhattan, with the judge initially hesitating to grant a day off for the occasion. However, the judge eventually agreed to allow the day off from court.
The list of delegates from Florida underscores the significant role the Trump family and their supporters play in Republican politics. Lara Trump, Eric Trump’s wife, was appointed as co-chair of the Republican National Committee earlier this year.
The Florida delegation also includes other prominent figures such as Kimberly Guilfoyle, the fiancĂ©e of Donald Trump Jr., and Michael Boulos, Tiffany Trump’s husband. Longtime Trump allies like Isaac Perlmutter, former CEO of Marvel Entertainment and a major donor, and Steve Witkoff, a real estate investor and friend of Mr. Trump, were also selected as delegates.
