The BC United party, British Columbia’s Official Opposition, has announced that it will run some candidates in the upcoming Oct. 19 election. This decision comes after the party had initially suspended its campaign last week to support the B.C. Conservative Party.
In a letter to party members, it was stated that despite the previous suspension, the party intends to run a select number of candidates in the fall election to ensure that BC United, formerly known as the B.C. Liberal Party, remains a registered political party with Elections BC.
Although the letter did not specify the ridings in which the party will run candidates or the exact number of candidates seeking election, Adam Wilson, BC United’s communications director, emphasized that running some candidates will help maintain the party’s presence in future elections.
Last week, BC United Leader Kevin Falcon had withdrawn the party’s candidate nominations and encouraged support for the Conservatives to avoid a vote-split that could benefit the New Democrats in the re-election.
