A member of the pro-Palestinian activist organization Samidoun, who was recently arrested by Vancouver police for an alleged hate crime, engaged in an online conversation with a spokesperson for the terrorist group Hamas this week.
Charlotte Kates, the international co-ordinator for Samidoun, participated in a discussion on May 5 with Osama Hamdan. Hamdan has served as a media representative for Hamas since the October 7 attacks in Israel and was previously the group’s representative in Lebanon.
Kates has been prohibited from participating in protests, rallies, or assemblies until October 8 as a result of her arrest and is facing undisclosed charges, according to a statement from Samidoun.
Meanwhile, Hamdan described the October 7 attacks as a response to efforts to undermine the Palestinian struggle, portraying the violence as an effort to reignite Palestinian resistance.
According to Kates, Israel does not have a future in the region. She stated that the events of October 7 demonstrated the possibility of a Palestine free from Zionism and imperialism, a future that the Palestinian people and their resistance can and will achieve.
Kates commended university students for taking a stand against genocide, while Hamdan praised the occupiers and protestors as heroes, emphasizing that the battle against occupation will continue beyond the aggression in Gaza.
While Canada has designated Hamas as a terrorist organization, Samidoun has not been banned or restricted by the federal government.
In response, Liberal MP Jennifer O’Connell stated that the government takes terrorism threats seriously but could not comment on specific groups for terrorist classification.
The Epoch Times reached out to Samidoun and the Vancouver Police Department for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
