The disturbing tale of mentally ill stabber Ramon Rivera has taken a darker turn.
A shocking letter uncovers the long history of chaos and danger at the Bellevue Men’s Shelter, where Rivera resided following his premature release from prison.
According to the letter, residents, including recent Rikers inmates, have engaged in threats and robberies against individuals in the vicinity.
The letter was penned by Joel Marcus, a businessman associated with the Alexandria Center for Life Science neighboring Bellevue.
One of Rivera’s victims met a tragic end just steps away from the Alexandria building.
Alexandria stands as the city’s primary commercial life sciences campus.
The letter highlights that when Alexandria was constructed in 2006, the city discussed relocating the problematic shelter known for its dangerous environment.
However, the city not only failed to act but also attempted to hold Alexandria accountable for partially closing one of its gates to deter vagrants.
Reportedly, these individuals intimidate pedestrians, treat the sidewalk as a lodging, carry weapons, and exhibit unruly behavior.
Even within the shelter, the residents pose a threat. The situation escalated to the point where Alexandria had to install window protection due to items being thrown towards their campus.
Perhaps a better solution would be to avoid locating such facilities in densely populated urban areas like Gotham, opting instead for a shelter on Rikers Island or outside the city.
As it stands, the city is inadvertently supporting disorder while penalizing law-abiding citizens for protecting themselves.
This scenario echoes previous incidents involving Daniel Penny and Jose Alba.
Ramon Rivera’s violent spree is a direct result of the flawed policy approach that prioritizes criminals and mentally unstable individuals over the general populace.
Without significant political reforms in New York City and Albany, it’s only a matter of time before another individual like Rivera emerges to unleash havoc.
