The recent election has concluded with a surprising victory for former President Trump, who not only secured all swing states but also won the popular vote for the first time in two decades. This required a significant shift in the opinions of 7 percent of voters, totaling 10 million people. With both the Senate and likely the House in his favor, Trump now has the freedom to implement his policies.
However, the country remains deeply divided, with tensions continuing to escalate. Platforms like YouTube, cable TV, and TikTok are saturated with conflicts and rebuttals. While the Republicans have gained the majority, they struggle to connect with the other 48 percent of voters who made different choices. The aftermath of the election still feels like a power struggle.
Is there a way to bridge this divide and bring the nation together after such a contentious election?
I vividly recall the moment when former President Trump launched his presidential campaign in November 2022 at Mar-a-Lago, just a week after the midterm election. It was a subdued affair, a setback for Trump and his supporters following several losses, except for wins by J.D. Vance and Ron DeSantis, the latter of whom soon became a thorn in Trump’s side.
As events unfolded, a remarkable series of developments took place.
In March 2023, Trump faced indictment by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for alleged payments to an adult film star, leading to a surge in his poll numbers due to loyal support. Subsequent indictments followed, each turning into unexpected advantages for Trump as his popularity rose. Despite setbacks, such as a significant financial penalty, Trump managed to turn the tide in his favor.
Following a miraculous survival of an assassination attempt in July 2024, Trump’s popularity soared, garnering admiration even from former adversaries. This string of events culminated in his landslide victory in the recent election.
What do these extraordinary events tell us?
As we move beyond the election, should we reduce it to mere winners and losers, or should we seek a deeper message within these events?
I believe that now is the time for conservatives to delve into the issues that divide us and find common ground rooted in the values and principles of our nation. These values are enshrined in the Constitution and the vision of our Founding Fathers. Despite our differences, the Constitution remains a unifying force. Why not engage in dialogue within this framework to address our disagreements?
One contentious issue is the economy, with differing views on tax policies and government intervention. The Founding Fathers advocated for a hands-off approach, emphasizing the power of the free market to drive economic success. Another issue is immigration, where the executive branch must respect Congress’s authority in setting policy. The debate on abortion rights should also respect the limits of federal power outlined by the Constitution.
By returning to the principles set forth by our Founding Fathers and engaging in respectful dialogue, we can work towards a more unified and prosperous nation.
Upon examining our founding history, it becomes evident that the principles enshrined in the Constitution are rooted in morality, faith, and natural law. These foundational values have guided America for almost 250 years, leading to its status as the most successful and prosperous nation on Earth.
As the supreme law of the land, the Constitution provides a common ground established by the Founding Fathers for all Americans today. Conservatives have a unique opportunity to reconnect with these founding principles, relearn them, and effectively communicate them to others. By doing so, they can instigate a new way of thinking and contribute to healing our nation. This aligns with what many believe to be God’s will, evident in the miraculous events of the recent election process.
