The White House is considering convening a meeting with Democratic governors on Wednesday and arranging for President Biden to visit the crucial battleground states of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania this week. This move comes as President Biden and his team aim to regain support and move forward from his challenging debate performance, according to sources familiar with the situation.
The Wednesday meeting would involve governors gathering both in person at the White House and virtually, as per information provided by insiders familiar with the planning. This meeting follows a virtual gathering of governors on Monday, where frustrations were expressed regarding the lack of direct communication with President Biden. Some officials have privately voiced concerns about the President being isolated, exacerbating the current challenges faced by the Democratic party.
President Biden’s team is also contemplating visits to Wisconsin on Friday and Pennsylvania on Sunday, with Pennsylvania being a strong swing state for the President in recent polls.
Following the debate, the President’s advisors have been advised by allies to increase his visibility. While he did have an event in North Carolina on Friday, his public appearances have been limited to fundraising events until Monday evening, when he addressed the Supreme Court decision regarding former President Trump. The delayed response and lack of interaction with reporters have raised concerns among supporters.
Democratic governors have been utilized as surrogates to defend President Biden and address questions about his age. These inquiries have escalated following his debate performance against Mr. Trump.
Additionally, some of these governors, a younger and experienced group, are being mentioned as potential successors to President Biden in the event he chooses not to run for re-election in 2024, despite the skepticism from his current supporters.
