A man allegedly set his girlfriend’s parents’ house on fire after a dispute, causing the girlfriend to flee as the flames engulfed the home, according to police.
Leonard Jones, 50, reportedly started the fire during an argument with his girlfriend inside the residence on Old Beekman Road in South Brunswick around 3 a.m. on Tuesday.
Police were called to the scene in Middlesex County after Jones refused to leave the premises, according to the South Brunswick Police Department.
While en route, authorities received a second 911 call reporting the house was on fire.
Four residents, including Jones, managed to escape the blaze that consumed the single-family home.
Neighbor Elise Campanella recounted how one of the residents warned her about the fire before firefighters arrived.
Campanella described the fire as extensive and expressed concern about it spreading to nearby houses.
Jones was apprehended at the scene and faces charges of aggravated arson and domestic violence.
