The United States must collaborate with its allies to counter communist China’s efforts to reshape the global order, as stated by Secretary Blinken.
America’s top diplomat, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, emphasized the importance of the United States investing in domestic industries and working with allies to approach interactions with China from a position of strength. This message was conveyed during a discussion at the Brookings Institution think tank on July 1.
Mr. Blinken highlighted that the era following the Cold War has ended, ushering in a new phase of competition to determine the future landscape of international relations. He pointed out that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) aims to surpass the United States and establish itself as the dominant global power economically, diplomatically, and militarily.
Despite the costs involved, Mr. Blinken stressed the necessity for the United States to confront the CCP wherever it attempts to expand its influence. This proactive approach is crucial in preventing the regime from gaining traction in its pursuit of establishing an authoritarian model for global governance.
“Our partners in Asia understand that if you allow aggression to go unchecked anywhere, it becomes a greater threat everywhere,” he reiterated.
Mr. Blinken emphasized the need for the United States to work closely with regional allies to address the various challenges posed by the CCP, which ultimately undermine the liberal rules-based international order.
He highlighted the interconnected nature of threats faced by the international community and cited examples like Russia’s involvement in Ukraine, where Chinese components played a significant role in the creation of Russian military equipment.
Furthermore, Mr. Blinken noted the shifting perspectives of U.S. allies in Europe towards China’s involvement in regional conflicts, signaling an increased willingness to support American efforts in countering the CCP.
“We’re now in a much stronger position than we were three and a half years ago, equipped with the necessary investments in ourselves and our allies to confront these challenges with confidence,” Mr. Blinken concluded.
