The suspect accused of luring a sports reporter to his death at a hotel near New Orleans is now facing a murder charge, according to local police reports released on Tuesday.
Danette Colbert, a known serial fraudster, was taken into custody last month after she was seen accompanying 27-year-old Adan Manzano, a Telemundo correspondent covering the Super Bowl, into a hotel room in Kenner, LA, where he was later discovered deceased.
The Kenner police have now officially charged Colbert with second-degree murder, as reported by the New Orleans Advocate.
Surveillance footage captured Colbert entering a Comfort Inn Suites with Manzano, leaving alone, returning, and then leaving again on the day of his death.
An initial toxicology screening revealed the presence of Benzodiazepine in Manzano’s system.
Authorities also stated that Colbert used Manzano’s credit card to make purchases at various stores in New Orleans.
Following her arrest, Colbert was dubbed the “Bourbon Street Hustler” due to her extensive history of theft and credit card fraud, which included two incidents involving drugging and robbing men.
“She’s a career criminal … Ms. Colbert has quite a record and rap sheet for confidence games, access device fraud, and robbery schemes,” stated Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley during a press briefing after her apprehension.
