A 15-year-old boy surrendered to authorities to face a murder charge in the Bronx subway shooting that occurred last month, resulting in the death of an innocent bystander and injuring five others. The teen, whose identity remains undisclosed due to being a minor, turned himself in at the 44th Precinct and was charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon.
This marks the third arrest in connection to the fatal incident that took place at the Mount Eden subway station, claiming the life of Obed Beltran-Sanchez, 35 years old.
Langel Jones, a 16-year-old gang member, was the first individual arrested in connection to the shooting, with ties to the violent DBlock gang involved in a feud with the Burnside gang. The feud escalated when both groups coincidentally boarded the same train at different stops.
In mid-March, a 14-year-old boy wounded in the incident was also arrested and charged with multiple counts of attempted murder and weapon possession. This boy was also linked to a previous shooting in the Bronx related to the same gang feud that likely triggered the subway shooting.
During the chaos, Obed Beltran-Sanchez, who was not involved, was fatally shot after innocently looking onto the platform to investigate the commotion. Despite being wounded, he was ignored by passersby as he lay dying on the ground.
Obed Beltran-Sanchez, originally from Mexico and described as homeless, had family in his home country. The shooting also left a 14-year-old girl, a 29-year-old woman, and two men aged 28 and 71 with non-life-threatening injuries.
