Cassie Laundrie, the sister of Brian Laundrie, has revealed that she has been estranged from her parents for almost two years after they refused to cooperate with investigators regarding the whereabouts of Gabby Petito and her brother.
Amid online backlash following the release of the docuseries “American Murder: Gabby Petito,” which highlighted the allegations against Christopher and Roberta Laundrie for withholding information about Petito’s disappearance, Cassie Laundrie addressed the situation on her Instagram.
“If you’re new here and just starting to attack me today, I’ve been non-contact with my parents for almost two years,” Cassie Laundrie stated on her page.
“Have fun,” she added.
Cassie Laundrie also denied the claims made in the docuseries that she told police about Brian leaving Gabby at a Wyoming hotel before returning to Florida alone.
“No one from any family contacted me until Detective Barry called me,” Cassie clarified on her page.
Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito had been traveling together across the western United States in a white van, documenting their adventures on YouTube. Laundrie returned to his parents’ home in North Port, Florida, alone on Sept. 1, 2021.
Ten days later, Petito was reported missing by her family after their unsuccessful attempts to get information from the Laundrie family.
Petito’s body was discovered in Grand Teton National Park on Sept. 19, revealing that she had been strangled by Laundrie, who had a history of abusing her.
Following the discovery of Petito’s body, a warrant was issued for Laundrie’s arrest, but his parents refused to cooperate with authorities or provide any information about their son’s whereabouts.
Eventually, Laundrie’s remains were found in a Florida nature park, along with a confession to killing Petito before taking his own life.
Despite Cassie Laundrie’s claims of not knowing Petito’s whereabouts, she has faced criticism from over 2,400 commenters on her post.
“Girl, a quick glance at your account shows that you never, not once advocated for Gabby,” one user commented. “You and your folks deserve all the backlash and karma you’re getting for the complete lack of grace you showed that poor girl’s family during one of the worst things a parent could go through.”
“Read the room and shut the hell up,” another user wrote. “You and your family deserve to suffer the way that poor girl and her family did. Your brother is rotting in hell.”
