Arica Hutchison, a former police officer from Memphis, Tennessee, has been sentenced to six months in prison and two years of supervised release. This comes after she pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit theft from a program that receives federal funds. The program in question is Crime Stoppers, which provides rewards to individuals who provide information that leads to an arrest in a crime.
Court documents revealed that Hutchison manipulated department databases by entering false information and listing an accomplice as a tipster. As a result, she fraudulently obtained $18,500 from the program for the fabricated tips. In addition to her prison sentence, Hutchison has been ordered to pay $22,000 in restitution. She is also required to undergo a mental health assessment, counseling, financial literacy classes, and substance abuse and alcohol treatment.
