Susie Holland is facing potential fines amounting to thousands of dollars, although officials have not disclosed the exact figure, for providing rides to Burning Man. The 61-year-old was one of over a dozen individuals caught in a sting operation by the Nevada Transportation Authority (NTA) and charged with violating various state laws, including one that mandates a certificate for transporting people for payment. Offering rides to and from Burning Man is a common practice, and Holland got the idea to charge for rides at last year’s festival after helping out some friends and attendees who were stranded in the mud. Holland’s vehicle was impounded, and she is looking at a total of $30,000 in fines. NTA officials have indicated that this amount will be reduced since it is her first offense, although the exact penalty has not been specified.
