Caroline and Matt Ydstie received a ticket for running a red light in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, even though they live in the Pittsburgh area and have never been to Philadelphia. What added to the confusion was that the ticket was for a white Ford, while they drive a blue Honda Civic. Upon contacting the Philadelphia Parking Authority, they were advised to reach out to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. PennDOT informed them that they would need to go to court to dispute the ticket. Caroline Ydstie mentioned that the legal fees would exceed the cost of the ticket, so she reached out to a local TV station. The station discovered that the issue stemmed from a typo made by the person entering the ticket information, which was generated by a red light camera. The error resulted in one letter of the license plate being incorrect, linking the ticket to the Ydsties’ vehicle.
